Perfect place to stay in Aljezur! We stayed there for 5 nights in double room with private bathroom and balcony on second floor. Great place with rooftop terrace, nice breakfast every morning with a view to Aljezur! Price/quality matches perfectly!! (Source: Google).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ALGARVE
Climate
The weather in this area is ideal for about 10 months a year. As the dry plains inland heat in the sun, hot air rises, pulling cooler air from the sea to replace it. This sea breeze is fresh, cool, and free of allergens.
Generally the west coast is 8-12 degrees cooler than the south coast on hot summer days.Inland, it gets hot; very hot in midsummer, in the 40’s, like the south coast. Those high temperatures can be nice when you’re on holiday, but when you’re living somewhere you like to get out of your chair and move around. Even in midsummer, the temperature rarely moves above 25C. in the microclimate area.
Drinking & nightlife
Cafes and bars around the main square provide some evening diversion. But don’t expect big parties!
Getting there
Closest airport is Faro (80min) but also Lisbon (3hours) is an option.
If you’re driving, there’s a free car park next to the turismo. Eva buses run between Lagos and Aljezur (€3.85, four on weekdays, one on Saturday). One bus runs on weekdays to/from Carrapateira (30 minutes). Rede Expressos buses run north to Lisbon (€18, two daily) and south to Lagos (€8, two daily) and Portimão (€9, one daily). No buses run to/from Praia da Arrifana.
Health
Portugal has a high-quality healthcare system, with pharmacies and doctors readily available countrywide.
Citizens of the EU are eligible for free emergency medical treatment if they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which replaces the no-longer-valid E111 certificate. In the UK, you can apply for this card online (http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad) or pick up an application at a post office. It will not cover you for nonemergencies or emergency repatriation.
Eating
Cafe-bars overlook the main square around Igreja Nova. In Praia da Arrifana there’s a string of seafood restaurants (packed with Portuguese at weekends) on the road above the beach, where you can expect to pay around €10 for grilled fish.
