SURFLIFE THE STORY
The journey of SURFLIFE started back in 1991 when founder Harry Glotzbach and a few friends decided to explore the summer months and went on a surf adventure to the French west coast. Coming from the 90’s snowboarding scene, surfing was something almost unheard of – and truly inspiring. This summer lead to the idea and creation of what Surflife is today. Started with one of the first Surf Camps at the French West-coast we’ve expanded to multiple locations in different countries for all kinds of guests.
Surflife lives and breathes through a family of people who follow their passion and live their lives to the fullest! By sharing our surf experience and organising surf camps, we aim to bring people together and give something back to society.
In the upcoming year we try to make even bigger steps when it comes to sustainability. At all of our locations, we provide access to free drinking water, to avoid the one time use of plastic bottles. We recycle as much of our waste as we can to contribute to a better world. Alongside this, we try to source most of our food organically as possible.
For years now, we have also organised surf camps for school groups. After several requests from special educational organisations, we have been arranging weeks for children with every kind of need. In the coming years we hope to extend these specific weeks to introduce as many people as possible to this enriching sport. Surfing has a positive effect on the physical, mental and emotional development and strengthens self confidence whilst installing a strong community bond.
Where it all started…
Coming from windsurfing and snowboarding Harry and Tom met in ’93. Soon after Tom started as a volunteer at the surf camp and since then he is part of our furniture.
10 years ago Evy quit her event business and learned to surf in Mimizan and fell in love with the town and the sport and Tom :). Now this family runs Surflife nowadays.
Atlantic Riders, founded by René and Helen, started tripping in the summer of 2001. They brought their love of Portugal and of surfing together and set up shop in the Algarve.
…one day he’ll take over!
